Our name
The Apostle Peter wrote to Christians in the early church who were scattered in many different places and were suffering for their faith. Peter reminded them of their true identity - those who have been “born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). For these early Christians, following Jesus changed everything!
Peter continued to remind them of their new identity in Christ when he wrote, “As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chose and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:4-5). These were not just words of encouragement for an ancient group of people that lacked security and stability. They are important and applicable in our world today as people continue to wrestle with questions of identity.
Oshkosh is a city with a rich history that has experienced many changes. There is a lot of effort going into renewing and revitalizing this great city. Many people are asking questions like “who are we?” or “who are we going to be?” We at Living Stone Church want to be a part of that discussion! Who has God made us to be? Who is Jesus Christ and why does it matter? Is there any hope for this city, for this world?
May Living Stone Church always be about Jesus - THE Living Stone. And may we be built up, stone by stone into a spiritual house that honors the Lord in our worship of Him and our service of others. May we live out our true identity and calling as we proclaim to the people of Oshkosh the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9)! And may God receive all the glory that He is due both now and forevermore!
